Hound Tor was a medieval settlement, located in Dartmoor, Devon, UK. The settlement at Hound Tor was inhabited from the 13th to the early 15th centuries, as an increase in population and favorable climatic conditions led people to live on and farm the marginal land of the moors. People living there farmed in structures called longhouses, where they lived at one end and kept their animals at the other. Other smaller structures on the site may also have been dwellings or possibly barns, as three of the small structures contained corn dryers. Archaeologists excavated this site in the 1960s and 1970s, today it is cared for by English Heritage and the Dartmoor National Park Authority. Grid reference: SX 7464 7877.
