A DIY hot wire cutter for expandable mesh and wire coverings is easily made using a 12-18 volt, 1amp+ wall transformer, 26-31 awg nichrome wire (50mm), two M4 cap head screws, six M4 washers, six M4 nuts, a snap action switch and optional recommended parts from pololu.com. To assemble, cut the connector off the transformer, strip wires, feed bolts through the housing, solder the switch inline, add washers and nuts, glue the switch and wires in place, attach two more sets of washers and nuts to the terminates, wrap nichrome wire between washers, tighten bolts, test, and enjoy.
