Hot Wheels Criss Cross Crash 18650 Battery Adapter

My kids have a Hot Wheels brand Criss Cross Crash toy that uses 4xD-Cell batteries. Best I can tell this design hasn't changed much since I was a kid, and I didn't love the idea of needing $10 worth of batteries each time they ran low. 18650 Lithium Ion batteries, popular in Flashlights and other high-drain electronics are slightly more than 2x the voltage of a D-Cell battery (3.7v vs 3v respectively), so this adapter allows you to use 18650s instead. Because the voltage is +20% over D-Cells, the cars do move faster and the track legs may need adjustment. This modification is obviously not warrantied, and your mileage may vary, and you may be reducing the lifespan of the motor (though this seems unlikely). How to install this adapter: 1. Remove the metal plate in the battery compartment furthest from the center of the track. It has a metal catch you may need to pull free with a small screwdriver. 2. Install the metal plate in the channel in the print. 3. Remove the D-Cell center locator sliders from the battery compartment. 4. Cut a channel out of the battery compartment to allow the adapter to drop into the compartment. 5. Insert the adapter, place the batteries, install the battery cover.
