So you're all set for this year's major Total Solar Eclipse. But you're wondering - once I put a solar filter on the front of my camera, how do I safely aim it at the Sun? No need to think about that anymore, friend. Just print one of these handy templates (preferably in a light color), and you can easily get aligned close enough to the Sun that it'll show up clearly on your camera's screen. Just slide the target into your camera's hot shoe; when the small post casts no shadow, you're right on target. Remember, always be cautious when doing solar photography. Unfiltered (or poorly filtered) sunlight amplified by your camera's optical path can blind both you and your camera.
