Hot shoe-mounted viewfinder visor
prusaprinters

If you wear glasses (or sunglasses) and shoot photos outdoor with a DSLR, you must have been annoyed by how sunlight from atop blinds you when you are looking through the viewfinder. No viewfinder-mounted visor can solve the problem because your glass prevents your eye from touching the visor. Well, this hot shoe-mounted viewfinder visor is here to help! It's simple yet effective. Print, insert into the hot shoe upside down, and go out shooting in the sun!

I have designed and tested it for my Canon 5D and 6D. The same principal should work for all DSLRs with hot shoes. If it doesn't work for your camera, leave a comment about what changes are needed, and I can upload a working version for you. Similarly if you can measure the hot shoe size of non-Canon cameras it should be easy to change the design too.

Print instructions

Category: Camera Print Settings

Printer Brand: Wanhao

Printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3 V2

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.2mm for a smoother appearance, otherwise doesn't matter

Infill: 100% for best light blockage

Notes:

The asymmetric shape is designed for right-eyed photographers. If you are left-eyed, mirror the model before printing.

To make it tight and secure, this is an EXACT fit. The printed corner and bottom layer tend to extrude slightly and you may not be able to insert it right away into the hot shoe. In this case, filing the edges a little bit will do.
