Horus, the Falcon

Horus, a mighty falcon god, holds a revered place in Egyptian mythology. As an ancient deity, Horus the Elder stood among the oldest gods of Egypt's storied past. He was a sky god, whose radiant face embodied the sun's blinding glory. Since Horus reigned supreme over the celestial realm, it was only natural that he was believed to encompass both the sun and moon within his majestic presence. It is said that one of his eyes shone bright with solar radiance, while the other gleamed softly with lunar luminescence. As he soared through the skies as a falcon, the sun and moon traversed the heavens in tandem, earning him the title of Harmerty – Horus of dual vision. In ancient times, followers of Seth, patron deity of Lower Egypt, may have been vanquished by those devoted to Horus, protector of Upper Egypt, who ultimately united their lands beneath a single banner. This unification was symbolized by the golden Horus, an emblem representing solar splendor and regal power, which became a revered title among all later pharaohs who successfully merged Upper and Lower Egypt's realms. During the Old Kingdom era, Egypt's monarchs were revered as living incarnations of Horus, while their deceased predecessors were venerated as Osiris, a symbol of eternal kingship.
