Horus

Artists utilized a diverse array of materials in ancient Egypt, with choices driven by availability, cost, and the patron commissioning the piece. Materials spanned from bronze and clay to more costly substances like gold, silver, and wood. Despite its desert climate, Egypt had—and still has—a limited number of trees, making wood a relatively rare material. This stone amulet featuring the sacred falcon of Horus would have been fairly common were it not for the semi-precious stone inlays forming the eyes. Semi-precious stones like deep blue lapis lazuli and black obsidian were largely reserved for pieces crafted for the upper echelons of society.
