Hornet Trap

Hornet Trap

The homemade hornet trap is secured to an Evian or Qèzac bottle simply because it has the precise diameter needed for the lower cone. Use a 3.5cm cutter to draw a cross that will secure the small cone in place. To prepare the bottom one, cut the bottle's bottom straight across using a cutter as shown on the picture. Next, create two holes in the cork so you can thread a string through it. Fill the bottle with blackcurrant syrup until it reaches just below the level of the lower cone, then pour in beer up to that point without exceeding it. Place the trap high up in a tree where European hornets and Asian hornet queens will be attracted to the lower cone while wasps are caught by the small side cone.
