Hornby LNER A1 to A10 / A3 Conversion Parts & Spare Smokebox Door
thingiverse
These parts I created to update a 1991 Hornby LNER A1 'Flying Scotsman' (Tender Drive) in 1920s-30s RHD form to the A10 / A3 RHD guise. The outlying locos that weren't converted to A3 during the LNER era were later converted to LHD, including Flying Scotsman, but survived in RHD as late as the 1950s, which is why the RHD cab, reverser and pipework of the A1 is still broadly correct. I don't pretend these items are absolutely perfect, but nor is the donor model, it just adds a few options if you have a battered old loco and want to update the A1 to an LNER A10 or early-BR A3. This might also be useful if you've lost your smokebox door, there is an LNER version without a numberplate, or an early BR version with a high numberplate. The dart is modelled as solid as per the original (often lost) Hornby version but can be sliced off to replace with a nicer wire or cast dart, and you will need to add a handrail however, just like the original. The cabside between the early A1 and later versions is changed, the RH seat includes the extra part of cabside. For the LH side, if your model is undamaged, simply mirror the RH part when you print. Many cabside windows get damaged, so the 'LH Repair' side includes part of the window frame. If you RH cab is damaged, simply mirror this part to use on the RH side. You will need to slice off your original round dome with a sharp knife, and unless you're very careful will have to add a boiler band after (or just rely on the decal), but the new banjo dome locates over an existing band to position correctly. Enjoy
