Horizontal spool holder with printed bearings.
thingiverse
This is my custom horizontal spool holder design. While it's far from perfect, it's a significant improvement over the stock holder that came with my printer. If you decide to print this creation, be aware that you'll need to print 3 bearings, 3 sliders (or whatever you choose to call them), 3 rails and 1 hub. The central piece prints smoothly without supports, but you'll need to flip it upside down. Sorry for the inconvenience. You'll also require a tool to break loose the bearings - a 3mm hex key worked for me. Don't glue the parts together if you want to be able to adjust the holder for smaller spools, and some grease in the bearings will make it spin much better (it's obvious). Have fun printing this unique spool holder! Update: I've added 'bearing 0.1t.stl' file, which features a bearing with 0.1mm clearances instead of the original 0.15mm. If your printer is well-tuned enough to print it successfully, it will work even better. Otherwise, use the original 'bearing.stl' file.
