I was really drawn to the concept behind [this cone hub spool holder](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2449600/), but I wanted to make some key changes. Here's what sets this design apart from other cone hubs: * Four wings instead of three, making it easier to get a grip and turn. * Wings are constant thickness, not pie slices, allowing for easier fitting with meat-sausage fingers while tightening. * A captured nut rather than one glued in place, making assembly easier. * A single full-sized nut is used inside each hub half, rather than two, which means the rod's thread is not over-constrained, making it easier to turn. Print two copies of everything except the PC4-M10 passthrough. I printed the hubs out of ABS with 10% gyroid infill and the bearing retention parts solid. **You must pause the print at the top of the internal cavity in order to insert an M8 nut.** You'll need to glue *rod_capture.stl* to the inner race of the bearing before you insert the bearing into the base. Use parallel-jaw pliers, a vise, or an arbor press to insert the bearing; it should be an easy fit. You'll need an appropriate length of M8 threaded rod. Chase your cut with a die to reform the threads. Updates ======= 2019-4-21 --------------- New files are up. Photos are out of date.
