The marble sculpture of Roman soldier Horatius Cocles dates back to 507 BC and was gifted by the Porto Riche family to the city of Biarritz. Former owners of the Grand Hotel, they presented this impressive work of art to the public. Standing at approximately three meters tall, including its base, the statue commands attention with its sheer size. According to historical records, Horatius Cocles successfully held off the Etruscan army led by King Porsenna while his fellow Romans swiftly chopped down the Sublicius Bridge behind him.
