HOPPIS: Hex-organizer-plant-pot-interlocking-system
thingiverse
I was fed up with clutter around my workspace at the office. I experimented with various designs in Solidworks until I came across dto26's drawer system. I've always been fascinated by hexagons and how they can be combined to create different shapes. From there, I created multiple variants of hexagons to find the best interlocking mechanism. It locks so well that I had to apply quite a bit of force to slide the different parts into each other. Your printer needs to be extremely precise, or you'll need to use a slicer like Simplify3D where you can define a value to compensate for any inaccuracies. The wall-thickness is set to 1.4mm. In addition to the standard hexagon, I also designed two larger trays consisting of three hexagons, a lid for a paperclip-tray (insert magnets in the two 6mm holes), and a large plant-pot with an additional watering-insert. Each filename includes the height of the module. The plant-pot module consists of two separate bodies. The outer pot and an insert, which is intended to prevent mold or wet soil, can be separated and printed in different colors, just like I did.
