The hook sword, also known as twin hooks, fu tao, hu tou gou (tiger head hook) or shuang gou, is a Chinese weapon traditionally used in northern styles of martial arts and Wushu weapons routines. It's now often practiced by southern styles as well. There are five main components to the hook sword: 1. The back, which functions as a regular sword. 2. The hook, used for tripping enemies, catching weapons, and slashing attacks. 3. The end of the hilt, sharpened for added effectiveness. 4. The crescent guard, employed for blocking, trapping, and slashing techniques. 5. The link, utilized when using a pair. The two hooks can loosely connect, allowing the wielder to swing one hook sword while extending the second further out – nearly six feet. As the second hook is airborne, the dagger on the hilt slashes the target. This technique enables the wielder to increase their reach from three feet to an impressive six feet.
