The people of Hong Kong are under siege as we speak. Brave protesters are being brutally suppressed by a heavily militarized police force that is answerable to the mainland Chinese Communist Party government. Why? The Chinese government has announced a change to the long-standing policy of trying Hong Kong citizens in their own courts, insisting instead that they be extradited to the mainland for trial. The key difference between the two systems lies in the ease with which innocent people can be found guilty on trumped-up charges and subjected to harsh punishments. In mainland China, this can result in your organs being harvested while you watch. The people of Hong Kong are justifiably opposed to this idea and have begun to resist. Their peaceful protests were met with violence from the riot police. Things have escalated since then, and the people of Hong Kong have responded with 5 demands that would simply return their laws to how they had been for hundreds of years and ensure a peaceful resolution to the current unrest. Protestors are now being arbitrarily labeled as "rioters," which results in extradition to the mainland and carries a sentence of up to ten years in prison (if you make it out). Please support, to the best of your ability, any legitimate relief fund that provides relief for the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill movement protestors. Let them know that the world is watching.
