For a standard home appliance triplex water filter (e.g. Honeywell FF60 AX) you always need to renew the filters every 6months. The first 100μm filter you can clean (and only need to replace after 2 years / 3 rinses), the 25μm is a disposable one and so is the (most expensive) active carbon one. Up until now!I've designed this detachable bottom lid which you can insert into a (modified) Honeywell FF20GAC filter case. Here's how you can modify the filter:Drill out the bottom portion of the filter using a 63mm hole saw.Drill four 3mm holes at the bottom sides of the filter. There are some marks in the molded plastic of the filter that will help guide youthe line at the bottom allows you to position the holes at the proper heightthe indents at the bottom allow you to position the holes at 90° w.r.t. each otherOnce you completed step 1, you can remove the bottom foam pad and drop out the spent active carbon granulate, after which you can also take out the top foam pad. This will allow you to rinse out both pads and clean out the interior of the filter properly.Once you completed step 2, you can now insert back the top foam pad, fill up the filter with new active carbon granulate (I use 8x30 mesh) insert back the bottom foam pad and put in your printed bottom filter lid.At less than one third of the cost you now have a new active carbon filter! Without adding more than necessary to the waste pile!
