Honeycomb Storage Wall Inserts, Onshape Customizer
prusaprinters
These are the inserts to go along with my Onshape customizer version of the honeycomb wall itself (see https://www.printables.com/model/620175-honeycomb-storage-wall-onshape-customizer )Aside from the customization, the biggest change to the files I've uploaded here is that they use a lower profile tab (only 3, and thinner) that I find holds well enough but is also easy to remove to move items around on the wall. You can still use the customizer to select the original tabs, or even no tabs at all.I have provided some sample files that I think are most useful to everyone, but keep reading for details about how to configure this further for your own needs.Individual inserts with an empty center, countersink, counterbore (front and rear), and 3mm hole.Multi-insert parts in various combinations of 2, 3, 4, and 7 inserts, configured with all inserts “empty” as well as one countersink, which works well with a drywall screw to attach things to a wall.A small plug/cover for the countersink screw holes.Additional individual insert with room for an 8x5mm magnet to be glued in from behind. So far, I've found 8x3mm n50 magnets to hold plenty (see it holding up a wrench in the photo), but I left room for larger just in case. I attached the magnet with some UV-curing glue, for easy removal in the future. You can interact with this design without an account, but you will need a free Onshape account in order to download the files in any format supported by Onshape (3mf, stl, etc). You can access the file in Onshape by following this link. For those designers who aren't comfortable with Onshape, I've also included .step files of some variations of the individual inserts so you can use them with your own projects. Please let me know if I missed something that you'd like to use, and I'm happy to add it.Comments/questions can be added here, or on the reddit post I created to track them. This document also contains a part studio called tool-insert which is intended to be imported as a Derived part in other designs to provide the necessary geometry for plugging other shapes (e.g. hooks) into your HSW. It supports several configurations based on whether you want an insert to go into the “empty” insert hex holes, or full insert with or without the “face” decoration (and also allowing a flat bottom for easier horizontal printing). If you wish to make versions of the multi-insert parts with different configurations in the inserts (similar to the countersink ones I've provided), I modeled these such that you can apply individual configurations to each insert in the “tree.” All you need to do is find the Derived instance you want to modify, and change the configuration to suit your needs:Updates:2024-03-21The Onshape project has been updated to include “original” tabs, and hex-hole center version of the minimal-face shape to use as a part to be glued onto other models (see my HSW screwdriver rack for an example).Uploaded .step files for these new tool-insert variations, for those CAD users who don't use Onshape.
