Honeycomb
thingiverse
Piece of honeycomb designed to test acceptance and accommodation by my beehives of 3D printed cells can also serve as an educational tool for teaching people about bees. IMPORTANT: You may need to print this at 102% scale instead of 100% in order for Cura not to mess up the wall slicing with a 0.4mm nozzle, or use nozzles smaller than 0.4mm. These cells meet bee standards except for slightly oversized walls (.4 mm instead of .2). The design should be suitable for many species of common honeybees, with five different files available. UPDATE: I have covered the print with a thin layer of wax and placed it in a fresh new hive today (23rd of May), see picture. It may take some time for the bees to start building near the print; I will update as soon as I have something interesting.
