Honeycomb Hexagon Coaster
thingiverse
This coaster is two pieces, allowing easy cleaning of the drip tray below the honeycomb top. It measures 120mm across, accommodating reasonably large mugs on its surface. Print the honeycomb design using any method that works best; lines are 0.5mm wide. With Simplify, ensure the extrusion width is around 0.4mm to accurately slice the walls. Other slicers may achieve better results. The tray part was printed in PETG, while the honeycomb is made of PLA, which shrunk slightly and required scaling up to 102% for a proper fit. The honeycomb is cut out directly from the tray, making it a tight fit at 100% depending on material choice. Print Settings: Printer: Boots Industries V2.5 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.20mm Infill: N/A Notes: No infill necessary. The tray may need to be scaled up based on the chosen material; PETG required 102% scaling to fit around the 100% scaled PLA honeycomb. Post-Printing: The honeycomb infill is slightly off in both X and Y dimensions. If it doesn't fit the tray initially, try rotating it to see if that resolves the issue. How I Designed This: This design was created using OpenSCAD, where a hexagon was drawn with the cylinder($fn=6) method, followed by for loops to create rows.
