Honest John for Loc 3" tubes
thingiverse
UPDATE: This is an obsolete design. It was based on my 2 year old Pringles version and I've since updated THAT version to be much truer to scale. Accordingly I've updated the Loc 3" design to ALSO be more true to scale. I'm leaving this thing up because some people may have already started building it and need the designs yet. The new version you SHOULD be building is here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6288953 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I got a request to scale my Pringles Honest John for Loc 3" tubing. As this was a pretty straight forward task (I think), here it is. Note, I do NOT have any Loc 3" tubing, so I've not been able to test any of this. But someone has committed to testing it and hopefully he will post a make when he's done. I'll update this as I get feedback on it. This version has both regular launch lugs, which I do NOT recommend at this scale, and rail guides, which are probably a better idea. The rail guides should fit in 2020 extrusion rails, but I've not tested them yet. It also has both the original (resized) 24mm motor mount and a version for a 29mm mount. The 29mm mount version requires you to supply you're own motor retention system. This might be a tad heavy for Estes 24mm motors, unless you print most of it with LW-PLA, but several companies offer stronger motors in 24mm. The 29mm top centering ring has a notch in it to slide past the guide rail seats, should you opt to use that launch system. The original Pringles rocket was designed to use two Pringles cans joined with a coupler, which had that little "riveted" detail the Honest John has mid fuselage. Should you opt to use a full length tube on this one, I've provided that detail as a "ring" (not shown in the diagram) you can just slide over the body tube. I also provided a coupler with no ring so you can split the rocket wherever you want. Again, this is a work in progress...at least until someone builds it and confirms it all fits. Be sure you know how to test a rocket for stability, btw. This one might be a little big for the old "swing test" 2023/07/17 Update: Changed the inner diameter of the 29mm centering rings to 33.6mm instead of 33.7mm for a tighter fit.
