Honda Sun Visor Fix
thingiverse
Honda has been grappling with sun visor issues for several years, and unfortunately, the 2016 Civic's visor design is also flawed. The mounting arm of the visor is loose enough that when turned along the door during a sharp left turn, it may hit the driver's head (it happened to me a few times). I firmly believe this could even cause an accident if the driver isn't expecting such a hit. At my local Honda Service center, I was told there's no way to fix it - nothing to tighten, so I decided to come up with my own 3D printed solution that may work for other Honda models as well. I removed the driver's hand grip (which I think is useless in my opinion) and replaced it with a visor clip. Since the grip has two mounting points, I designed a cover for one of them and attached the clip to the other. Images show how everything came together. Unfortunately, this solution doesn't allow for adjusting the visor position along the door, but the clip is far back enough to well protect from side sunlight. I'd be happy to see remixes of this design addressing this limitation. Parts You'll need one 4mm self-locking nut and three M4x20mm screws - two should have hex socket cups and one should have a hex head. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: VERTEX K8400 Rafts: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20% Notes: holder_outer was printed with Touching Bed support. All other things were printed without brim or support. Post-Printing holder_outer and cover things contain support structures that need to be removed after printing. Assemble all the pieces and tighten all screws at least once before mounting them to the car. After removing hand grip (how-to instructions can be found online), push the cover thing into the right hole of the grip until it clicks. Place the hex-head screw into inner_piece and slide it into the left hole by holding the other end of the screw. Pull the screw back with your hand until inner_piece fills the opening from inside. Use a knife or other sharp and flat tool to apply pressure to the far end of the screw from left to right direction. This will help hold the screw in position and stop it from being pushed back while you mount holder_inner piece. The screw should pass through holder_inner and come out for about 4-5mm. Fix these two things in this position with self-locking nut. This is a bit tricky operation and may take a few tries until you succeed. Instead of a knife, you can use a few drops of silicone to glue the screw to inner_piece and to glue inner_piece to the surroundings of the opening from inside. Let silicone dry before proceeding. Place holder_outer thing on top of holder_inner and fix it in this position with two hex socket cup screws from the right side.
