Honda S2000 Throttle Pedal Heel-&-Toe Accessory
thingiverse
WORK IN PROGRESS. This 3D printed throttle pedal extension accessory is designed to make 'heel & toe' braking with engine rev matching during down gear shifts in a Honda S2000 easier for drivers with big feet, like me. The standard throttle pedal position and spacing can be challenging for some drivers. Aftermarket and DIY pedals are available made from sheet metals, but I think this 3D printable plastic extension may well be the first of its kind (if not, please send me the WWW link). The 3D printed pedal extension accessory requires no modifications to the OEM pedal, it can be customised, and it can be easily removed if required. The design evolved into two parts: a Grip, which slides onto the OEM Honda pedal from below, and a Tab that attaches to the Grip and provides the new pedal surface. Originally, I planned to make the entire thing in one piece, but keeping the design as two parts makes more sense now, allowing the Tab to be easily customised by me or others to suit their own needs (ankle reach and foot width etc). The Grip is a snug fit to the OEM pedal and can be lightly glued with RTV on the sides and/or on the back. The Tab on this prototype design is meant to be glued to the Grip before installation, using epoxy or CA glues. For test fitting, it will just snap together via locating bumps on both pieces if printed correctly. I printed prototypes in ABS at 0.2mm layers on a well-tuned Prusa i3. If your printer is good, the parts should be a snug fit. If not, rescale very slightly on the slicer software (on both parts). The Grip is best printed upright with the lower surface on the print bed, as seen in the fitted photos. The Tab is best printed flat, with the back surface down. STL files are at correct scale to be printed, but the SKP (Sketchup) files are at 1000x (m = mm) because Sketchup Make has issues with parts that have small sharp corners. The project is ongoing, and I am still settling down the width and height (above OEM pedal surface) of the Tab. There are a few different height versions: Low is the thinnest, V4 is the thickest. Use the tab thickness that gives you the right amount of throttle to match rpm comfortably. If you try one and create a new Tab, please report it on Thingiverse. Good luck and happy rev matching :)
