#Four Button Honda Key Fob ####This key fob housing is a remix of drwatson6's 3 button [Honda Civic Key Fob Housing Replacement](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3191843). After many years of use, my Honda Civic's key fob broke. I tried to salvage it with glue and epoxy but it was at the end of its life. Luckily, I have a 3D printer! After searching Thingiverse for replacement key fobs I found a couple that worked, but weren't very robust. Then I found [drwatson6's version](www.thingiverse.com/thing:3191843)! However, I still had the issue of drwatson6's fob missing the trunk button as well as a low availability of the screws he used. This remix sets out to fix those problems, and I am pleased with the result. If this helps anyone I'd love to see a make! - - - ###Modifications include: * The addition of a third button hole (trunk button) * Many newer Honda key fobs such as my 13' Civic have a trunk button, making for 4 total buttons. * Slight extrusion of the front to fit screw-holes for M4 10mm socket head cap screws and nuts. * The only real reasoning for this screw size was their easy availability at local hardware stores. **Note that this required drilling a larger hole in the metal key. (I used a 5/32" bit)** * Widening of the 'key-ring-hole' to 10mm * More closely resembles the thickness of the stock fob's 'key-ring-hole' (~8.5mm) and provides extra stability * Guiding "knobs" to secure the halves together before full assembly * Provides a tiny bit extra lateral strength and provides and allows for a nice test fit before the key fob is in place * An optional logo inlay on the back of the key. * Didn't print too well on my printer, the logo has since been inlayed deeper and should show up fine on future prints. --- ###Assembly ####Assembly will require three M4 10mm socket head cap screws and three matching nuts. The nuts I used and provided an inlay for were ~2.5mm thick. In order to fit the M4 bolt through the metal key, the hole in the key will need to be widened using a 5/32" drill bit (or other slightly larger size, but 5/32" was a perfect). ***Disclaimer: ***I am not saying it is a good idea to drill a wider hole into your key, and if you do so you should be sure in your ability to keep the key from being damaged and use proper lubricant and safety gear.*** * When widening the hole in the key be sure the new hole stays centered. * Squeezing the key itself through the slot in the housing is a tight fit, but it should make it. * Be sure you have the key's security chip. This should be soldered to the board of the fob on the 4 button keys but it doesn't hurt to check. * Tightening the bolts too much - especially the front bolt - can cause the part to bend and lift at the edges. * Glue does not seem necessary but could be used to provide extra support for the key. * If your printer prints the housing in a way that causes the fob to be a bit loose, slipping the scraps from a print's brim or skirt behind the fob can help.
