Human: Homo sapiens Location: Predmosti, Moravia, Czech Republic Age: 26,000 years B.P. Material: plaster cast Dimensions: length, 116 mm; width, 123 mm; height, 66 mm Notes: A near-complete mandible from a Homo sapiens fossil found in the Predmosti region of Moravia, Czech Republic. The skeletal remains were excavated between 1884 and 1930, but unfortunately destroyed by fire during World War II. A plaster cast was created by the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania for educational purposes. This cast is part of the teaching collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was modeled by Jordyn Gray.
