Human remains from Homo sapiens are found in Les Eyzies, Dordogne, France, dating back approximately 27,700 years B.P. The fossilized skull is a plaster cast with dimensions of 220 mm in length, 155 mm in width, and 152 mm in height. A cranium belonging to a male was discovered in 1868 by Louis Lartet. Between 1930 and 1952, Mr. F. O. Barlow of R. F. Damon & Co., London created the cast from the original fossil. The model is part of the teaching collection of Research Laboratories of Archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, crafted by Steve Davis.
