Human: Homo neanderthalensis Location: La Chapelle-aux-Saints, France Age: Between 56,000 and 47,000 years old Material: Plaster cast reproduction Dimensions: Length is 239 millimeters; width is 158 millimeters; height is 142 millimeters Notes: The cranium belongs to an almost complete skeleton known as La Chapelle-aux-Saints 1 or "The Old Man," which was discovered in 1908 by A. and J. Bouyssonie and L. Bardon. First reported by Marcellin Boule in 1913, a cast of the remains was made between 1930 and 1952 by Mr. F. O. Barlow of R.F. Damon & Co., London. This model is from the teaching collection of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, designed by Steve Davis.
