Summary Meet Homo Naledi, the newly discovered extinct early human ancestor unearthed by the Rising Star expedition team near Johannesburg, South Africa. The paleoanthropology and archaeology world is abuzz with this groundbreaking find, and in keeping with scientific tradition, the discovery has been published online at Morphosource.org for everyone to explore and participate in. Check out the original publication here: https://elifesciences.org/content/4/e09560 I've reconstructed the upper skull by combining fragments DH3 and DH4 to create a replica that's perfect for volumetric data analysis. I've also rebuilt the upper maxilla, matching it with the published mandible, and adding in the zygomatics and mandible for a complete skull experience. With these four files, you can assemble the ENTIRE SKULL from scratch. More photos will be added as I finish the replica. Kudos to the amazing scientists who make this kind of reproduction possible. All original scans and specimens are credited to the original authors. I'm an anthropologist not affiliated with the project or the Rising Star team. I teach anthropology and specialize in fetal osteology and 3D reconstruction, with a range of interesting specimens available on Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/shop/FetalReproductions?ref=hdr_shop_menu, including high-resolution fetal scans and bones.
