Human: Homo erectus Location: Zhou Xian, China. Age: 680,000-780,000 years B.P. Material: plaster cast. Dimensions: length, 109 mm; width, 125 mm; height, 68 mm. Notes: RLA catalog no. 1979rp44 (cast). Skull discovered between 1929 and 1936 in a cave near Zhou Xian, China, is now lost during World War II. Cast is based on descriptions, photographs, sketches, and reconstructions by Davidson Black and Franz Weidenreich. Formerly classified as Sinanthropus pekinensis and Homo erectus pekinensis. Cast made by the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. From the teaching collection of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
