Homo erectus - a species of human that once roamed the earth. Location: Koobi Fora, East Turkana, Kenya. Age: Approximately 1.6 million years old. Material: Epoxy resin cast. Dimensions: Length - 201 mm; Width - 139 mm; Height - 133 mm. Notes: Catalog number RLA 2501.1rp36 (cast). This fossil was discovered in 1975 by the Koobi Fora Research Project team. It is a cranium, providing evidence that Homo erectus and Australopithecus boisei coexisted during the same time period. The cast was created by Bone Clones, Inc. It belongs to the teaching collection of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
