Hominin tracks from Laetoli Site S, test-pit L8
sketchfab
Laetoli is a renowned palaeontological site in northern Tanzania boasting an impressive record that includes the oldest hominin footprints worldwide (3.66 million years), unearthed in 1978 at Site G and attributed to Australopithecus afarensis. The latest findings report hominin tracks discovered in the new Site S at Laetoli, identified as belonging to two individuals moving in tandem and sharing the same palaeosurface as those documented at Site G. The dimensions of these new tracks strongly suggest a body size greater than that of the Site G hominins and yield stature estimates that significantly surpass the maximum values known for Au. afarensis, making them tantalizingly comparable to the average stature of modern Homo sapiens.
