The Homilies d'Organyà, also known as "Homilies of Organyà", is a remarkably old literary document in the Catalan language, surpassing all other known fragments in age and significance. Its antiquated language blends elements from vulgar Latin and Catalan, creating a unique linguistic heritage. Other notable ancient texts in Catalan include the fragment of Forum iudicum, the feudal oath of 1098, and Greuges de Guitard Isarn dating back to 1080-1091, both originating from Organyà, along with Catalan glosses found in Latin documents as early as 1034. The Homilies d'Organyà were discovered by Dr. Joaquim Miret i Sans, a historian and lawyer, within the vicarage of Organyà in 1904. This remarkable find dates back to the end of the 12th century and consists of six sermons that delve into commentaries on various gospels and epistles. The original document is preserved at the National Library of Catalonia, while a reproduction is displayed in Organyà. A bronze sculpture was created to commemorate this historical document, paying homage to its enduring cultural and historical values. This sculpture serves as a testament to the importance of preserving our shared heritage for future generations.
