Lee Rosenbaum of CultureGrrl expresses concern over the misuse of technology that may lead to superficial interpretations when exploring art collections like the Metropolitan Museum. Meanwhile, Cosmo Wenman shares his digital 3D capture project on Skulpturhalle Basel's plaster cast of the Louvre's Imaginary Portrait of Blind Homer. He compares it with Rembrandt's Aristotle with a Bust of Homer and experiments with digitally recreating the lighting in a 3D model, overlaying it onto a high-quality photograph of Rembrandt's piece provided by the Metropolitan Museum. Wenman highlights how technology allows for playful experimentation with art pieces, while still respecting original works in museums. His project, "Through A Scanner, Skulpturhalle," showcases his digital captures on Thingiverse. The Louvre's original has a narrower shoulder compared to the plaster cast at Skulpturhalle Basel. Wenman processed his capture with ReCap Photo and further worked on it with Blender for printing, resulting in a 536mm tall model with 790,000 triangles. He also offers tips on using ReCap or 123D Catch on his blog. Lastly, he expresses gratitude to the Skulpturhalle Basel museum and Autodesk's Reality Capture division for sponsoring his project.
