This statue is a cast in plaster of renowned Greek writer, Homer. The stand is significantly thicker than depicted in the images. The epic conflict known as the Trojan War is estimated to have commenced in either the 12th or 13th century BC and holds a pivotal place within the realm of Greek mythology. It was sparked when Paris of Troy abducted Helen from her husband, Menelaus (King of Sparta), igniting a chain of events that would culminate in the defeat of the city of Troy by Greek forces in April 1184 BCE. Numerous literary works have chronicled this war, yet none are as renowned as Homer's masterpieces, Iliad and Odyssey. These two epic poems, comprising 24 books, serve as a testament to Homer's enduring legacy within the annals of Greek history and culture. Iliad precedes Odyssey and centers on the exploits of the legendary Greek warrior Achilles during the Trojan War. The son of Peleus (King of the Myrmidons) and the sea nymph Thetis, Achilles' bravery is etched in the annals of history. Although Iliad covers a mere few weeks in the final year of the war, it lends credence to many of the enduring Greek legends surrounding this pivotal conflict. Odyssey follows Iliad and recounts the heroism of Odysseus (King of Ithaca) as he navigates the treacherous waters of his homeward journey over a span of 10 years following the Trojan War. Although the poem itself only chronicles the final six weeks of his odyssey, Odyssey remains an enduring testament to the indomitable will of its protagonist.
