Homer

The image of Homer on display at the Antikensammlung in Kiel is a reproduction of a Roman marble copy. The original was a portrait type from the Hellenistic period, dating back to the 2nd century BC. There are numerous representations of Homer, often depicting him with long hair and a beard, portraying an older man. Additionally, Homer is frequently shown blind, as inspired poets like Homer in the Odyssey were depicted this way. Whether Homer ever existed as a singer and poet and whether the works attributed to him, such as the Iliad and Odyssey, were written by one individual or a group of authors remains unclear. It's now assumed that both works weren't written by the same poet. Therefore, Homer and his image should be viewed as fictional.
