Homemade Webcam

What I plan on making for this project is an easy, cheap way of getting a webcam at home. Why would you need to spend 30$+ to get a webcam that barely attaches to your monitor, leaving more wires in the void in the back of your computer. Something that everyone has in today’s day in age is a phone! So with this you can attach your phone to your monitor allowing you to save 30$ on a webcam that probably has worse quality than your phone’s camera. To prepare it all you need is 4 rubber bands for each side, tying it around so you can have more friction and to save your screen from scratching or breaking. Then you just screw in the 2 pieces together to the desired tightness so it can fit any phone and any monitor. What issues did you come up against? I didn’t have many issues regarding this piece, it was fairly simple. But the only aspect that did require a bit of thought was what I could put in-between the 2 pieces holding together both the monitor and the phone without scratching them. What I came up with on that aspect was to wrap a rubber band around each of the ends, preventing scratches and also allowing the phone and computer screen to have more friction holding it together. If you could redesign this again what would you change? I would probably have something already built in to allow holding the phone more, I might also have a bit of middle rotation piece, that allows for even more flexibility with your Homemade-Camera. How would 3D printing help strengthen your design? 3D Printing filament is usually pretty sturdy, which allows this to not break easily while also having a semi-cheap way to produce the product. #studentdesignchallenge
