Homemade Reverse Crossbow

Homemade Reverse Crossbow

grabcad

A senior high school honors physics student devised this double cam reverse crossbow for a projectile motion study. The objective was to create a gadget capable of launching a tennis ball at maximum distance. Stored energy is amassed via fiberglass rods inside PVC arms. This innovative design features three ropes: the first, connected to top cams and wound around them, has its central rope-pouch midway between the cams; the second attaches to a bottom cam, tautly tied to the opposite arm; while the third is similarly arranged. Upon pulling the upper rope, the lower ropes wind around the bottom cams, compressing the arms under tension.
