Home improvement: Kenmore dishwasher chopstick basket
thingiverse
We occasionally like to eat a meal with chopsticks. Unfortunately, our Kenmore model 665 (circa 2008) dishwasher has a utensil basket with holes big enough to let chopsticks drop through and interfere with the water sprayer below. Because the basket holes are formed by two perpendicular sets of parallel grooves vertically offset from one another, it is possible to create a screen that lays in between the upper grooves, forming a level row of grooves with half the original spacing. The OpenSCAD script has customizable parameters but the code itself has some fixed constants that may need to be tweaked to work with other dishwasher baskets. I had to print four of these before I got it to fit perfectly. **Do NOT print with PLA!** It may melt in the dishwasher. You might get away with PETG, but this model is designed to be printed with ABS, a high temperature plastic that holds up well in the dishwasher. After several months of use, this screen still looks like it just came off the printer.
