Home Depot Jumbo Bulb conversion to pixels (pixel holder disc)

This is for the newer, LED version of the Home Depot "jumbo bulb". These instructions replace the single, white LED in the jumbo bulb to receive seven ws2811 bullet pixels instead. This way, the bulb can be any color and can be digitally controlled. These instructions require you to create a pixel holder from fresh material (thin acryllic, wood, etc.) using a laser cutter. These alternate instructions allow you to recycle the jumbo bulb's battery cover into a pixel holder, either using a laser cutter or modifying it with hand tools with these instructions instead: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5832101 1. Remove bulb cover. 2. Remove three screws holding the pixel/battery tray to the socket. Also remove screw holding battery cover. Set these four screw aside. 3. Remove battery cover & batteries. 4. Remove two tiny screws holding circuit board, discard. 5. Remove two larger screws holding LED post; place these with the other four screws above, making six. 6. Remove three screws in the socket that hold the hook & button. Keep these screws together; they are used to hold the 3D printed adapter (a.k.a "spacer") in-place. 7. 3D print the adapter (100% infill, any kind of plastic, no supports). Be sure to thoroughly remove supports from bottom of adapter, otherwise it will not seat flat on the tray. 8. Use a laser cutter to cut the pixel disc out of 2mm or thicker material (acryllic, wood, etc.) using the included cutting design file. Optional: tThe black boxes in the design file are meant to be engraved (not cut) halfway through the material and help align the disc with the adapter. 9. Remove the metal springs & tabs from the battery compartments. 10. Use a rotary tool with a cut-off wheel to remove the bottom half of the battery compartments, retaining the slots on each end of the battery compartments where the metal springs & tabs were attached. 11. Use a sanding barrel/drum on the rotary tool to carve-out the rectangular box in the center of the tray. Be careful to retain the raised rim of this rectangular area. 12. Place the adapter on the center of the tray, over the hole that you just cut-out. 13. There are three holes on the adapter in a triangular formation. Use a 5/64" drill bit to drill through the top center hole, through the adapter and through the tray. You may need to ream the hole to make it slightly wider than the drill bit. 14. Fasten the bolt that once secured the hook into this hole. 15. Drill-through the remaining two holes on the adapter. 16. Fasten the two bolts-with-washers to these holes. 17. Place the pixel disc on top of the adapter, lining up the three holes. If you engraved the three black boxes mentioned above, the engraved side faces down. 18. Fasten the disc to the adapter with three of the six screws from above. Optional: further secure disc by attaching zip ties in disc's slots to slots in battery compartments. 19. Attach the tray to the jumbo bulb socket with the remaining three of six screws. Done!
