Home Depot Bucket Cyclone Dust Separator
thingiverse
The goal of this project is to create an efficient cyclone dust separator from a Home Depot bucket. There are countless DIY versions out there, but this one is mine. Currently, two parts have been created (hose adapters still need to be added): 1) The vacuum inlet port (Vacuum Inlet.STL) 2) The Dust inlet port (Home Depot Bucket Adapter.STL) The vacuum inlet was designed by remixing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:119410. It has been modified to make it bigger and add a bottom ring, which is meant to be bolted and glued to the inside of the bucket lid. An adapter will have to be created to fit your hose into this port, but this is where the vacuum connects. The dust inlet port (not the flipped one - Home Depot Bucket Adapter Flipped.STL) was designed to fit on the right side of the dust inlet, about 1cm from the rim. You'll need to cut a hole and trim off the remaining ribs from the outside of the bucket, then bolt/glue the vacuum port in place. An additional model (Home Depot Bucket Adapter Flipped.STL) is available for use if you want to mount everything to the bottom of the bucket. This model is not ideally suited for the bucket, but the material should be flexible enough to bend into shape around the bucket wall. The advantage of putting everything on the bottom of the bucket is that you don't have to trim any ribs, and you can attach this bucket to a second one for easy dust removal. However, I prefer the convenience of the lid and the space-saving design, so I'm mounting things to the top. This project is still in progress. It's being printed as we speak, and it will take a long time to print. Once I get the hose adapters made, I'll add them too.
