With Christmas fast approaching together with the festivities surrounding the Holy Family on Sunday between Christmas and New Year's Eve, Cross Lances sculptors aim to offer a unique creation dedicated to this special occasion. The Holy Family is made up of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Cross Lances is located in Florence, Italy, where Renaissance-style artistry reigns supreme. This artistic movement transformed our city into the beautiful metropolis it is today. Renaissance, born between the Middle Ages and modern era, lasted from the middle of the 14th century to the 16th century. During this period, humanity underwent significant transformations that gave rise to new ideas like humanism, which influenced art and popular thought. When designing our sculptures, we carefully selected statues that served as inspirations and references. We narrowed it down to two prominent masterpieces situated in Orsanmichele's church: Saint Jacopo, our primary source for depicting Saint Joseph, and The Holy Mary of the Rose. The statue of Saint Jacopo is attributed to Niccolò di Pietro Lamberti. As one of the fourteen art protectors of Florence depicted in Orsanmichele's exterior niche, this stunning work was commissioned by Arte dei Vaiai e Pellicciaie and created between 1410-1422 from Apuan marble standing at a majestic height of 213 cm. Although it is now housed in the museum, it has been replaced with a replica inside the church. The sculpture of Holy Mary of the Rose, attributed to Pietro di Giovanni Tedesco, also boasts an impressive 220 cm height made entirely of white marble and features stunning details crafted from the Renaissance period's distinctive style, making it stand out as one more example of Florentine excellence in art. The original can be admired today at Orsanmichele's museum. After conducting our extensive research and finding inspiration within some truly impressive artworks created throughout Florence's storied history, we set about crafting these special works inspired by Holy Mary, Joseph, and the Christ child to celebrate this unique time of year. Each creation is carefully crafted so that you may have them printed on your home or through a print service at will in an .STL file.
