Hologram Cube

The Hologram Cube is a versatile lamp that effortlessly generates diffused, ambient light when closed or something entirely new - a stunning illusion of a 3D object floating in mid-air, a hologram, when opened. In its closed state, the lamp cleverly conceals its true nature while still emitting diffused light. However, once the cube is opened by rotating the upper part, its remarkable capabilities are revealed. The inspiration behind this project lies in the currently popular DIY smartphone hologram projection experiment, which can be found on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqyK7CNZx2g). Instead of utilizing a smartphone, I employed the Kitronik White USB Lamp Kit and 3D printed components to bring this concept to life. The 3D printed litophane plate, which replaces the smartphone animation with a static image, plays a crucial role in creating the illusion. By printing the plate in several layers using litophane technology, it is possible to achieve varying percentages of transmitted light through the plastic, resulting in a depth effect that gives the appearance of a hologram on the pyramid. The litophane plate features four distinct views of the object, which are projected onto the pyramid when light hits it. One of the most appealing aspects of this lamp is its adaptability. It can seamlessly switch between serving as a hologram and an ambient lamp, making it an ideal addition to any room. This change is effortlessly made by simply rotating the upper part and allowing it to fall back into place.
