Holocron Ring Box

Holocron Ring Box

thingiverse

This is a ring box designed in the shape of a Jedi Holocron from Star Wars. The top corners turn to open an iris mechanism, revealing the ring. The bottom corners can be turned to raise the ring on a platform, resting on a kyber crystal. Everything can be assembled using craft glue. The assembly process is very tedious and difficult, you may have to reprint parts or remove some to re-fit them onto the build. 1) Print MainBody 2) Print BottomGear 3) Place BottomGear in the bottom center of the MainBody 4) Print four SmallGears 5) Place the SmallGears in the holes in the bottom, making sure that they mesh with the BottomGear 6) Glue the CornerPieces into the SmallGears from the outside, so the corners can turn the other ones via the BottomGear 7) Print two PinionGears and two PinionCovers. PinionGear is a real pain to print, be very careful removing supports 8) Place the PinionGears in the claw-shaped holders in the center, and cover them with the PinionCovers. They should mesh with the SmallGears, and may require a bit of force to get into place. 9) Print the RingPlatform 10) Turn the bottom corners about 2/3 rotation clockwise, then place the RingPlatform in the shafts so it meshes with the PinionGear on each side. Rotate the corners back 2/3 counterclockwise to retract the RingPlatform 11) Print one IrisGear, two IrisGearHalves, four IrisLeafs, and one IrisCover 12) Connect the two IrisGearHalves around the IrisGear so that the gear spins freely. Glue the IrisGearHalves together around the IrisGear 13) Position the IrisLeafs on the IrisCover so that they can slide around in a linear motion. Slide them all the way out so the opening is clear 14) Turn the gear upside down and place it on top of the IrisLeafs so that their pins fit inside the paths around the gear 15) Glue the entire mechanism together, making sure that all the parts can still move and spin 16) Print four more SmallGears and CornerPieces 17) Rotate the iris mechanism fully open. Place the SmallGears in the corners, positioned with the flat side of the triangle at the top and very slightly counterclockwise. They may not stay in position, you can use tape to temporarily hold them there. Place the iris mechanism on top, making sure that all gears are aligned 18) Reach your finger through the iris mechanism to push the SmallGears into place, then attach them to corners using glue. Rotate corners clockwise to close the iris. Glue the iris mechanism into place on the MainBody 19) Print 24 CornerTrimmings, six BorderTrimmings, and six CenterTrimmings 20) Glue the trimmings on in the pattern displayed in the image.
