Holocron Nightlight
thingiverse
This is a cube-shaped Star Wars nightlight case. When fully assembled, a tilt switch turns the light on when the cube is turned over. The outside faces appear blank when the light is off but reveal emblems from four factions in the Star Wars universe when turned on. A write-up on constructing the nightlight and adding electronics can be found at http://cmsc838f-s15.wikispaces.com/Star+Wars+Nightlight. The instructions that follow detail the assembly process for the case itself: A file containing all six panels is provided, suitable for print beds large enough to handle them in one print. Those with smaller beds will need to print each panel separately. Due to limitations in 3D printing technology, panels often do not print perfectly square. To address this issue, screw together the four sides first, securing the side marked "on." Ensure a secure connection and wrap the entire assembly in painter's tape to prevent movement during the next steps. Apply a bead of hot glue along the inside corners to reinforce the structure. Be careful not to accidentally attach the top piece to the side panels. Once cool, use super glue to reinforce all edges. Warped panels can cause internal stresses that may lead to sudden structural failure if left unchecked. So far, this method has proved effective in maintaining the integrity of the cube.
