Hollow Shell
thingiverse
My son had an idea to design a turtle-shaped robot so I decided to create this shell using OpenScad software. However, we quickly realized that printing a shell large enough to enclose an Arduino Uno microcontroller would take almost nine hours, which led me to cancel the print job.\nThe attached STL file is approximately fifty-six millimeters wide, but with the OpenScad model or ThingiVerse Customizer you can easily adjust its size. There is one variable, shell_radius, that defines roughly how far from the center out to the outer shell wall lies along the shortest axis. This dimension is roughly one-and-a-half times wider than it is long.\nSince I never attempted to print it, the necessity of printing supports in the center remains untested.\nUpdate: Simplified the OpenScad file and added comments, which illustrates several techniques for making flat pancake-like shapes.
