This is a custom casting pattern designed specifically for machinist jack stands. It features a hollow base that can be carefully extracted from the casting sand, as I've personally tested and confirmed. To ensure successful extraction, consider pulling out the pattern after half of the sand ramming process, then re-powdering the core. If it gets stuck, try pulling it out of the opposite half of the mold. Another approach is to flip the mold over when separating, allowing the weight of the sand in the core to aid in separation - just a thought. The larger base size was intentionally designed to accommodate a significant taper inside, making it easier to pull out of molding sand. This pattern is ideal for large jack stands where minimal metal usage is crucial. If you'd like, you could potentially modify it into a bell mold as well.
