Holiday Ornament Remix with Failed Prints from Screwless Heart Gear
thingiverse
We printed several Screwless Gear Hearts, but some prints didn't quite reach the end. In one instance our plastic ran out before the print was completed and another suffered from a regular printing glitch. To turn failed print pieces into something useful we decided to see what we could create using leftover parts. We got creative with our effort and designed some fun Holiday Ornaments. You can read more about this process at https://wordpress.com/post/78513574/78 **Reusing Print Pieces** If your print reaches the halfway mark, you can use a sharp chisel to smooth out top and bottom faces so they are flat. Put pin clips into the top piece, stack another beneath it as a base, then superglue them together. Apply extra pressure with a clamp until the glue sets. You may be able to reuse Emmett's original STL files for Heart gears 2 & 4 if you originally intended to print these parts as ornaments. Alternatively, simply reuse failed parts. The three required pieces are included here as STL files in this remix post for easy access. To do this, stack pin-clipped top and bottom halves together with superglue then add a clamp until it's set. Then voila!
