Holey 3D Printed Cast
thingiverse
I worked with a pair of students to design and manufacture a cast for a biomedical project as part of their class work. We began by capturing an image of his right forearm using a handheld scanner. From there I brought the arm into Inventor, where we constructed multiple cross-sections to create smooth transitions for the cast. Once it was built, I removed the arm model and added in the holes that would be needed. The cast had to be divided into four separate sections so that it could fit within the confines of our Replicator 2 machine. Overall, the finished cast measures approximately eleven inches in length, six inches in width, and stands roughly six to seven inches tall.
