Holder for T-Handle Hex (Allen) Keys with tapered hex slots
prusaprinters

This wall-mountable holder is designed for holding t-handle hex keys. A lot of standard holders have circular holes for the keys, but that results in the keys rotating in the holder and the bigger ones getting in the way of the smaller ones. To get round that problem I designed one with hexagonal holes. I also added a taper to the top half of the holes so the holes are larger at the top and hence it's much easier to get the keys into the holes.

The one I've made has the biggest key on the left, but I've included model files for the opposite way round (smallest on the left) if that's what you'd prefer. I've also included lots of different versions with different amounts of clearance so you can get a good tight fit.

The files named “TestPiece*” are small (and hence relatively quick to print) test pieces so you can work out how much clearance you need (the one I made had 0.25 mm clearance and this resulted in a tight fit but after shoving the Allen keys in and out a few times it's very good now). Bear in mind that the test piece is much thinner so the friction will be higher on the real holder.

I printed both the test pieces and the final piece with 4 perimeters; I don't know whether that's necessary or not though. For the final piece I added a colour change for the last two (0.2 mm) layers to make the text more visible.

There's also a mount piece, but that's probably only any use if you want to mount it to the angled face of a Harrison M250 lathe, so I doubt many people will be interested in that! I guess you could use it to mount the keys at an angle on the wall though.

STL and STEP files included for everything (STL for printing, STEP in case you want to edit anything).
