HOLD-DOWN CAM DISC PEGS FOR HONEYCOMB BED OF LASER CUTTER
thingiverse
These plug into the "holes" of a typical honeycomb bed used on laser cutter/engravers. There are three sizes of "peg", 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 mm diameter. These sizes work very well on my particular honeycomb bed. Since these files are in STL format, you can modify the diameter of the peg to suit the specific spacing of your honeycomb grid. To modify the diameter, I would suggest extruding a thin ring up along the peg either to add or remove material so as to make a light push fit into the holes of your particular grid. I found it a good idea to have three diameters, bracketing the best fit one. Also, you may find it necessary to increase the length of the pegs for thicker material. I have a set of short (these shown) and longer ones. A little experimentation in sizing the peg will go a long way to attaining just the right fit. The interesting and most useful features of this design are 1) the thin disc on the top with EASY GRIP feature around the perimeter, 2) the cam feature, and 3) the chamfer on the underside of the disc against the peg. The thin disc is just large enough to hold the material DOWN without the cutter head hitting the disc, and the grip feature aids in rotating the unit. The rotation of the unit engages the cam feature to hold the material from sliding SIDEWAYS. The chamfer feature also aids in holding down AND sideways as the unit is rotated. It is just a matter of selecting the right adjacent honeycomb bed hole to engage the camming action against the material. These are best used in opposing pairs to fully restrain the part along multiple axes.
