Hogback, St Thomas Church, Brompton
sketchfab
The Anglo-Danish hogback is one of five similar stones discovered within St Thomas' Church, located in Brompton, Northallerton, North Yorkshire. This particular stone is part of a group featuring three hogbacks adorned with bear carvings at their ends and intricate knotwork designs between them. Unfortunately, the origin of these hogbacks remains unknown, as they were unearthed during the excavation of the chancel foundations in 1867. A total of ten hogbacks were found, with five still housed within Brompton Church and the remaining five preserved in Durham Cathedral Library. The photographs seen here were taken on June 2019 using a Nikon D5500 camera.
